Coat-X spray-on protective coating and the Helios horsebox

Coat-X is a division of Kevin Parker Horseboxes Ltd and each Helios horsebox for sale is a bespoke build with the highest quality parts, finish and workmanship. Our horse area finish has to be of the same high standard. For this reason we have replaced heavy rubber mats and kick sheet with Coat-X spray on seamless protective coating. This gives us an unrivalled finish as well as total water proofing and a much improved grip in wet conditions over heavy rubber matting for both horse areas and ramps. We were so confident in the increased grip of our product we commissioned an independent test from Grip Potential Ltd (expert independent slip risk assessment) Here is a summary of a ten page report.

Grip Potential Ltd, independent slip testing experts, tested "Coat-X" and a standard rubber mat side by side for slip resistance to BS 7976-2, the HSE's preferred slip test method. "Coat-X" clearly provided an increased resistance to slipping in water wet conditions compared to a standard mat. "Coat-X" achieved a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of 44 in the wet, comfortably falling within the 'Low risk of slip' category as determined by the HSE, whilst the standard mat achieved a PTV of 29, falling within the 'Moderate risk of slip' category. The risk of a slip occurring drops exponentially with an increase in PTV, such that the "Coat-X" is far less likely to cause a slip than the standard matting. Dry test results for both surfaces fell comfortably within the 'Low risk of slip' category as expected.

Coat-X (www.coat-x.co.uk) is used as a finish to coat our horse areas and ramps because there are no seams or joints where water can penetrate. When power washed or steam cleaned each horsebox looks like new. We fit long drain tubes covered in Coat-X to take any water out of the horse area and past any chassis parts underneath the horsebox. These are not just holes drilled in the floor. Coat-X sprayed on our ramps has removed the need for capping around the edges. Horsebox ramps are often left open and water gets behind capping and edges rotting and swelling up. This is not the case with Coat-X spray-on protective coating. Because it is sprayed at a high temperature and waterproof it completely seals all edges for the life of the horsebox.
